charles horner

via silver collection
Charles Horner was an English silversmith. He patented the Dorcas design for thimbles, which is a silver plated thimble with a steel core. Thimbles marked with PAT are pre-1890 as he adopted the name Dorcas around that time.

the thimble

Digitabulist- a collector of thimbles.

An antique gold thimble with turquoise circa 1890

I have been collecting thimbles for approximately 15 years. I have a collection of about 150 thimbles, most from locations around the world. Recently I have been trying to extend my collection into different areas of thimbles, including antique thimbles. My interest was first piqued by antique thimbles when a friend received a pair for her wedding. As I start this new blog I anticipate this to be a place where I post about my research as I learn about antique thimbles as well as a place to connect with other digitabulists.
